The Simplicity That is in Christ
ABOUT THIS SERMON
Throughout the Christian walk, believers face an ongoing internal battle with human resistance—the subtle tendency to believe our circumstances are exempt from God’s Word, or that our own interpretations and comfort can supersede divine truth. Just as Satan cunningly deceived Eve in the Garden of Eden, the adversary seeks to corrupt our minds from the straightforward clarity and pure doctrine of Jesus Christ.
In 2 Corinthians 11, the Apostle Paul expresses godly jealousy over the Church, desiring to present believers as a "chaste virgin to Christ." The Greek word translated as simplicity (*haplotēs*) denotes singleness of purpose, undivided loyalty, and uncompromised focus. Drawing from Paul’s epistles and Christ’s direct teachings, this message challenges us to strip away human traditions, excuses, and intellectual resistance, and return to living by the uncomplicated, life-giving truth of God's Word.
In this video, you will explore:
• Overcoming Human Resistance: Understanding why human nature resists divine correction and seeks self-justifying exemptions.
• The Chaste Bride: Paul’s pastoral goal to present the Church of God as an unblemished, fully committed virgin to Christ (2 Corinthians 11:2; Revelation 14).
• Deceived by Craftiness: How Satan subtly shifts minds away from plain biblical truth through worldly opinions and philosophies (Genesis 3).
• What Is "Simplicity"? Unpacking the Greek word haplotēs—singleness of heart, single-minded devotion, and pure doctrine.
• Clear Commands: Why Christ's calls to "Follow Me," "Trust Me," and "Keep My Commandments" leave no room for human modification.
• Becoming Complete: Allowing the inspired Scriptures to thoroughly equip and mature the believer without adding or subtracting (2 Timothy 3; 2 Corinthians 13).
"God's way is simple to understand. His words are clear. There is no room for misinterpretation unless we are looking to misinterpret them because we resist doing them the way God said."
